    Andy's Story

Andy was diagnosed with kidney disease in seventh grade. Everything was fine until February 2017 when he was in the desert with some friends and felt extremely fatigued. He came home to symptoms of kidney failure and immediately went to the emergency room.

After treatment, his doctor said his kidneys were functioning at less than 8%. The short story is that Andy immediately started dialysis. Since his kidneys were nearly 100% non-functioning, that meant he had to perform dialysis at home every night for 8 1/2 hours.

Andy's life has completely shifted. Travel is limited and difficult. He can’t go swimming with his little girl, Lilijana (and Arizona summers are HOT). He can’t go camping with his friends & family. And, he recently sold his FedEx route because jumping in and out of a truck isn't the greatest for preparing for and recovering from major surgery.

We, his family (the crew pictured above), are doing everything we can to help Andy get back to feeling great so he can continue to make a difference in the lives of his children and those around him. Transplant surgery cost is in the tens of thousands of dollars, recovery is long, and he will have to take medication every day for the duration of the transplanted kidney’s life.

Andy is blessed to have a friend who has passed all the tests to be a live donor. Not only will Andy's life be forever changed, but so will Jessica's. The wait for a deceased donor kidney can be 5-10 years. Doctors estimate that Andy can live for 3-5 years with his current dialysis routine. Jessica is truly saving his life. The transplant is tentatively scheduled for early May. Learn more about Jessica on Andy's YouCaring fundraising page.

These are the times we need family, community, and all the support we can get.

We are asking our family and friends to donate $100 to support Andy and his live donor, share that you've donated on all of your social media platforms and via email, and send prayers directly to Andy. If $100 is too much, send what you can. To cover Andy's surgery, recovery, lost wages, and medications and to support his live donor's recovery, our goal is a daunting $25,000.
